In an interview to this paper a few years ago, a rather humble Rahul Roy had gallantly declared "Don't be afraid to call me a failed actor", while talking about his meteoric rise and equally sudden fall from fame. Therefore, when Roy evinced great excitement at filmdom revisiting his iconic debut film " Aashiqui " it was understandable. After all, Rahul became a household name with this film. In Lucknow recently for the mayoral elections, Rahul ended up reminiscing about his magnum opus.
"I am one of the very few lucky actors whose films is being remade in his lifetime," he smiled and added, "Just the other day I was sitting with Mukeshji when he told me the news." However, the actor in Roy, who has in the recent years tried finding a fortune in Bhojpuri ventures like "Ailaan", still can't help but be proud of how " Aashiqui " the simple love story, turned out to be.
"Mark my words, " Aashiqui" will be a tough act to follow. It will be very difficult to recreate that magic.
So I guess , Mohit Suri will have to make a new film, a new "Aashiqu i"," a smug Roy smiled. On A Rewind Mode Rahul says he is now more than ready to make a comeback into Bollywood , both in front of the camera and behind it.
"I'm keen to go back to Hindi films, both as an actor and even better, as a director. There have been so many ideas in my mind and now is the time to bring them to fruition.
In fact, very soon, I will announce my new ventures. My production company, in collaboration with another company, is coming out with five films, two of which will be in Hindi.
I will be acting in some of these films too," he adds. But this does not seem to be the end of Rahul's ventures.
For even more interesting he says, is the film he is planning to direct - a new age mythical film with a gothic twist! "Basically, what I am attempting to do is make a film that is essentially a love triangle, but one that involves the asuras, the gods and a girl. Now, I feel India has the technology to attempt such visually challenging productions and I'm out to try it.
" No More Small Screen The actor who's also served a stint on TV with "Bigg Boss " says viewers will not see him on TV again, soon. And certainly not in reality shows.
"When I became a part of "Bigg Boss ", there was a certain newness, a certain freshness. But now, there's a question mark on every subsequent season.
People get onto that platform because they need recognition. I don't need that recognition, so why do I need to bother," he explains, before signing off
